Properties of Matter
1. Solids
- Particles are close together and only vibrate.
- Definite shape and volume.
- Hard to compress.
- Example: Ice, metal.
2. Liquids
- Particles are close but can slide.
- Definite volume, no fixed shape.
- Slightly compressible.
- Example: Water, oil.
3. Gases
- Particles are far apart and move freely.
- No definite shape or volume.
- Easily compressible.
- Example: Oxygen, steam.
In short:
- Solid: fixed shape & volume
- Liquid: fixed volume, shape changes
- Gas: no fixed shape or volume
