What is anthropology?

Anthropology is the study of humans, their societies, cultures, and development across time. It is a broad field that seeks to understand human behavior, biology, history, and language through various perspectives. Anthropology is typically divided into four main subfields:

  1. Cultural Anthropology – Examines contemporary human cultures, customs, traditions, and social behaviors.
  2. Archaeology – Studies past human societies through material remains like artifacts, structures, and fossils.
  3. Biological (or Physical) Anthropology – Focuses on human evolution, genetics, primatology, and biological diversity.
  4. Linguistic Anthropology – Investigates how language influences social life, culture, and human communication.

Anthropologists use interdisciplinary methods to explore what it means to be human, from ancient civilizations to modern societies.
