Sensitivity
- Can the method detect very small amounts?
- Example: Finding tiny traces of lead in water.
- Remember: “Can I see it if it’s there?”
Specificity
- Can the method measure only the substance I want?
- Example: Measuring caffeine in coffee without being affected by sugar.
- Remember: “Am I measuring the right thing?”
Simple rule:
- Sensitive = Can detect small amounts
- Specific = Can detect the correct substance
