A low equilibrium constant (K) indicates that, at equilibrium:
- The reaction favors the reactants rather than products.
- The concentration of reactants is much higher than products.
- The forward reaction is limited, and only a small amount of reactants is converted into products.
Example:
- In a reaction with K = 0.001, most of the substance remains as reactants at equilibrium.
In simple terms: the lower the K, the more the reaction “leans toward” reactants.
