What is the range of wavelengths for visible light?

The wavelength range for visible light is about 380 nanometers (nm) to 750 nanometers (nm).

  • Shorter wavelengths (~380–450 nm): Violet to blue light
  • Medium wavelengths (~500–570 nm): Green to yellow light
  • Longer wavelengths (~590–750 nm): Orange to red light

Below 380 nm is ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is invisible to the human eye but can cause effects like sunburn. Above 750 nm is infrared (IR) radiation, also invisible but detectable as heat.
