How does the arrangement of veins differ in monocots and dicots?

The arrangement of veins in leaves is called venation, and it differs clearly between monocots and dicots.

  • In monocots:
The veins are parallel to each other. This is called parallel venation.
Example – grasses, maize, wheat, banana.
  • In dicots:
The veins form a branched or network-like pattern. This is called reticulate venation.
    Example – mango, hibiscus, pea.

Summary:

  • Monocots → Parallel venation
  • Dicots → Reticulate (net-like) venation
